Lunt 35 B400 vs, B600

Post by Pluton »

Hello,
I am looking for information on the Lunt 35/400 B400 , basic version in comparision to De luxe version, in your opinion the Basic version is a good entry solar telescope for sun observation? I have reading that is best the luxe version with B600 filter as it have a great sweet spot? You could compare the two versions of Lunt 35?
It would be worth the extra cost of de luxe version only for visual observation?
Thank you very much for your opinion
regards
Paul

The size of the blocking filter is nothing to do with sweetspots. I would personally go for the 600 over the 400.

Sweet spot is perhaps technically the wrong term, but it is true that the B400 blocking filter limits the useful field of view. This is why I switched to a bigger blocking filter (B1200, which is overkill, but if you can get it for the price of a B600, who cares). This is not to say the B400 isn't a good visual performer, it is just that bigger in this case is better.

Hi Paul

If you can, get the B600 version, you need the extra space as soon as you start imaging

This hobby is addictive, spending a little more now will save regrets later. For the extra $100 , I think it is worth it. You will get it back when you sell it to upgrade later. This equipment holds value and resells well.
