ARIES Full size ERF filters for larger telescopes.

Post by Valery »

Dear friends, solar observers and imagers,

I am glad to announce that my company ARIES started to make full size Dielectric Energy Rejection Filters ( DERF) for
larger telescopes with apertures from 7" to 14".

These filters are mainly dual band - for H-a and CaK (and Ca H ). However residual transmission allows to image
in some other spectral ranges ( 490 or 540nm). No additional filtration required if one will use PST Mod-2, Quark
or any another DayStar or Solar Spectrum narrow band filters/etalons. However an additional 2" Baader 35nm can
completely remove even a trace of unwanted heat. Same job can do a Baader CCD blue filter in the case one will
imaging/observe in a CaK.
These filters also have special anti-fungus coating. each filter have two covers for safe storage. Filters mounted on
a scope in the same way as telescope's dust cover - I do mean filters for SCT scopes.

Of course, we can make any size between 7" and 14" if anyone is interested.

Here are the images of the 295mm D-ERF filter. It seats on my C11 installed in a high elevation "observatory" - about
55m above ground level.

The sun spot image is the best image through this filter I was bale to take so far. If I will meet better seeing this winter,
I will surely add more images. It is clickable for a full resolution.

Thanks for looking.

Hey Valery, any luck with that transmission curve?

Not sure, Mark, what did you mean "luck" here. It does work like it were designed for.
Transmits two main peaks at 394nm and 656nm and attennuate all in between and down to
far IR. It removes about 95% of solar heat between these two peaks and down to far IR.

To make an Ha etalons totally free of any saun heat influence, I do use Baader 35nm or 7nm
H-a 2" filters.

Valery.

Sorry Valery, it's just a figure of speech I was using - wasn't implying there was any 'luck' with the ERF :movie

I added the best image I was able to take with this set-up so far, under barely so so seeing.
See the starting post. The image is clickable for a full resolution.

Hi Valery...

Mark was hoping that you could post the transmission curve for the ERF...'luck' would be a successful posting.

Great image from the C11

Hi all,

For those who may be interested.

We now approaching the finish line for few first large D-ERF filters ordered by our solar charters.

And I can tell that occasionally we were able to source some more large BK7 type glass of large size
and wood quality. In such, we do have one 385mm (for C14) two 295mm (for C11) and two 215mm
(for C8) filters in a progress and they are not sold already.

If anyone is interested, contact me via e-mail or PM.

Thanks,

Valery Deryuzhin

One 295mm and one 215mm were preserved.

So, only one filter each mentioned sizes are still available in a short perspective.

The last 215mm has been ordered.

One 385mm (for C14) and one 295mm (C11) still remain available for a short lead time.

Alex,

The wave front distortion is less than 1/8 wave.

Here at the main forum you can see Marty's Wise recent image (from April 3) of the current AR12737. He took his images with his C8 telescope equipped with the ARIES DERF 214mm. See how good is the resolution in the AR.

If you have any questions from me a PM.
