1.25" Baader UV/IR on Quark as ERF?

Post by Brett »

I have a Baader D Erf which I need to install internally into my 127mm refractor somehow and sometime. But was thinking of using my 1.25 inch Baader UV/IR filter with this refractor in the meantime. I cannot see how this would not work when screwed onto the Quark nosepiece. But everyone uses 2 inch UV/IR filters on the diagonal as ERF's.

Can I continue with my 1.25" filter or is there a problem that I will run into?

It will work, it just means the energy in concentrated onto a much smaller spot than when a 2" is used on the nose of the star diagonal.

Thanks Mark. This is exactly what I thought. What do you propose the risks are? The baader UV is a reflection filter. So I'm assuming that it should easily handle the smaller focus point of heat by reflecting? The other consideration being the smaller focus point back to the objective. This may be a problem. Don't know...

If you can put it on an extension nosepiece on the end of the quark it will handle things better.

put the extension on the end of the diagonal, and then the filter on the extension.
