Reddening problem with Lunt LS60T

Post by Dave »

I have owned a Lunt LS60T for a few years. Recently I have noticed that the previously dark black area around the Sun has become increasingly red and the whole image is getting washed out. This has worsened to the point that it's hard to see prominences or surface details of the Sun. Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks.

pull out the blocking filter and look at the glass on the inner surface. Im guessing it is clouded over with goo... It's a free fix from Lunt.

Thank you, you're exactly right. I assume then that there's nothing I can do myself - it has to be returned to Lunt? That's ok but it just takes time and money to send it from New Zealand.

Dave,
Lunt should ship you a replacement upon request. No need to return the "dead" filter element.
You can also soak the filter in CLR for a few minutes and wipe with a kitchen towel, rinse and see if there's any improvement.

Dave try Kens tip I just did it with two of my blocking filters. You,ll need some small Allen keys and patience.I had to soak mine twice .I then rinsed it with distilled water and dried it before reinstalling .I get about 18 months in my humid environment .
