Outreach with firecapture/pst?
Outreach with firecapture/pst?
I'm using an asi178 along with a pst and firecapture. I really like the software... but I'm having a tough time getting the proms to "pop". Any advice with firecapture settings would be greatly appreciated.

Just turn up the exposure?

If I increase exposure time or gain the histogram quickly gets to 100% and it's blown out. I read that I should keep the histogram around 60-80%.

Re: Outreach with firecapture/pst?
No way you can get surface and proms in one exposure. For proms you need to turn up exposure, surface detail will be higly overexposed and your histograram way over 100%, but that is the only way to do it. Brightness level between proms and surface is too big.
You have to combine separate exposure in post processing to get both on the same picture.
Update: with the ASI178 in 16 bit mode in FireCapture it is actually possible to capture both surface and proms, but the proms will be very faint. In the stacked image (from AS!3) you can make them visible by playing with the gamma settings. (But then surface will get overexposed again)

I always take 3 separate sets of videos with different gamma settings.
Low gamma values for surface detail and high for proms.
You can also overexpose the disk to get more prom detail
