Quantum 0.4Å PE Filter

Post by rsfoto » Tue Jul 17, 2018 8:09 pm

Hi,

After a long wait finally the filter purchased at NEAF 2018 arrived :seesaw

In regard to this I have a setup question. It comes with a 4X power mate from which I can unscrew the optical part and with some rings I have here screw it into the front part of the Quantum.

Now in the back there goes the camera and my question is:

Do I have to respect some fixed distance from the optical part of the PowerMate to the camera chip ?

Thanks and regards Rainer

PS I hope to have some Sun so I can test it this weekend.

Hello Rainer,

hope you will get good testing weather.

Seems distance from powermate to camera does not really influence magnification for the 4x powermate: http://www.televue.com/engine/TV3b_page ... 3&Tab=_app

But it might have impact on focusing. See notes on backfocus: http://www.daystarfilters.com/Quantum/QPEPaperPro.pdf

Hi,

After a while searching in all my Stuff I found some ZWO adapters and I was able to connect the unscrewed from its 2" Nose Piece Holder 4X PowerMate and fitted into the front part of the Quantum. The Mono ZWO camera ASI 1600MM Profits directly into the rear adapter of the Quantum.

I still have 1x one 16.5 mm adapter and 2two 21mm adapters to put in where I have now the 16.5 mm adapter which would equal to 74mm extension, but as far as I understood it is better to keep that as short as possible ?

I could even let machine a shorter adapter between 4X and Quantum instead of that 16.5 mm adapter.

Where I labeled to Telescope I can add a lot of extension tubes and the TOA has 250 mm of rear focus plus a big focuser travel. Tha blacka dapter was made by a friend and that oine fits into my 72 mm Ø Takahashi extension tubes.

I guess I have to play around by adding or taking off extension tubes ...

Am I on the right track ?

Looks like. Think you need to experiment to see if you can get into focus depending on camera - powermate distance.

For a Baader Telecentric there seems to be strict rules about distances telecentric - camera (and focus position) to get optimal results. For PowerMates could not find these.

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your help. I will contact Daystar and send them the Image and see what they say about it. Saw some Setups here similar to this and nearly all telecentric are directly attached to the Quantum with just an Adapter ring similar to mine.

Hopefully I can test it on my TOA 130 in my Observatory this weekend.

Hi,

I found the Image below on the Website of Daystar and comparing it to my Setup I guess I am on the right track ;)

I think he means the chart here:

http://www.televue.com/images/TV3_Image ... crease.jpg

It shows very little variation of the 4X with distance - it's a little under 4X at 0mm, seems right on at 25-30, and is maybe 4.4 at 100mm
