ZWO ASI iPad Compatibility Coronado PST

Post by Jordan Konisky »

I am looking to add a ZWO AIS camera to my new Coronado PST40mm + SolarMax II stacker setup. I would also use the camera for my SkyWatcher 100ED refractor for moon and planetary photography. I am currently considering several ASI options (224,290, 174, 178, 385), but that is not the reason for my post. At least not yet. I am also considering a future purchase of an AIAir system, but not now.

Now to the immediate issue at hand. I would like to run the ZWO off of my IPad. As I understand it, this is no problem with regard to running AIS software. My issue is that my IPad does not have a USB 3 port which is needed to communicate with the camera. Could use my PC, but it is bulky compared to my IPad. Apple does sell USB port adapters that plug into the Lighting port on IPad. Does anyone have any experience with creating a USB port on you IPad that communicates with you ZWO AIS camera? Any tips would be quite helpful.

No idea. Never tried it, but be interesting to see if others have and if it works.

I think the answer is that there are no ZWO drivers available for the IPad. Too bad. I will need to invest in a new smartphone that has a larger screen than my iPhone 5S.

What software did you find that would work with a Android tablet for image capture and the ASI 178 camera. My tablet has a USB port but haven't found any software that supports operation of a camera to the tablet.

I do have a freeware software that connect to my Nikon DSLR via USB that takes over control of the camera and uses the my Samsung cell phone 7s for image capture and live screen monitoring.....QDSLR DASHBOARD. Excellent very powerful app.
It also works with an older ASUS tablet but not a newer Samsung tablet.
