New Astro Toys!!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

All,

I just have to share my newest astro toys with you. The first is a new Astro-Tech 72EDII refractor. These review very well and are said to give near apochromatic performance. It's small size makes it an excellent grab and go scope. I bought it mainly for nighttime use but it may end up being used for solar as well, especially if I get a wedge or quark. I also got a pair of LUNT SUNoculars, an 8x32 set of white light solar binoculars. For the price they are very well made! I also received a Baader continuum filter for helping me observe sunspots, if we ever get any!

James

Great toys! With a wedge or Quark that scope will be good in the sun.

We will get some sunspots I am sure of it in the next couple of years :) looks like some great new toys, usually that sort of thing comes with free clouds with the purchase :)

Alexandra,

I lucked out and got 4 hours of observing time last night with the new scope. It did wonderfully. Practically no color fringing around my test star Sirius! My NextStar 102GT achromat has obvious color around the star and my nearly 40 year old old Traq 60mm refractor has less but it is still there. M-42 looked awesome and showed detail only a little behind the 102. I eagerly await to see what it will do on the planets and the sun. It's the ninth scope in my collection! I have three pairs of binoculars. Barska 20x80. Orion Ultraview 10x50 and the new Lunt 8x32 SUNoculars.
