"Coated" Lunt BG38 Blue filter?????

Post by Merlin66 »

https://luntsolarsystems.com/shop/solar ... g-filters/

I see there are reports, on SGL, that the replacement Lunt "Blue" filters for the BF assembly are "coated" for additional protection..
I'm unable to confirm.
Does anyone have some confirmation details on this filter's current construction?????

Doesn't look coated in the Lunt pic in the link. Looks like normal BG38 to me. What has SGL got to say?

In a recent post he says:
"""
Lunt were able to tell me that the blue glass is a UV Cut filter.

The newest version has a coating to inhibit this build up.

They also confirmed it was OK to try and clean the old BG filter and suggested CLR.
"""
I'm following it up with "Anthony" the member on SGL.....

Yeah, it's all based on soda glass, so it just effectively oxidizes on the surface. Straightforward to remove.

That's really good to know. This applies to both Lunt and Coronado BFs?

No, the Coronado ITF is a completely different design.
If it fails, the Maier Photonics replacement is a drop in replacement.

The Coronado BFs cannot be cleaned off if they oxidize?

No. The Coronado ITF is a laminated filter, the oxidation occurs between the layers. These are bonded with an epoxy and cant be separated.

Well Lunt has it on Coronado over that. Do you have a link for Maier Photonics if I ever need it?
