ITF replacement...how much!!!

Post by Ewan »

Hi any ideas how I could get round this 'issue'.

I am after an ITF filter from Andover which cost $180.00..postage to the UK is $175.00, stunned to say the least.
The filter is so small it could be sent in a letter from the US :-), any ideas to get round this maybe & save my solar season ?

Appreciate any help members.

That put me off buying before! A friend in the US did offer to allow it to be delivered to them, then they would post it for $5 but I gave up. You need a friend in the US :)

Seems that way Alexandra, for it's size the postage is far too excessive

Hi,

May I ask for which blocking filter ?

There is a guy in Germany who sells ITF filters.

Look here https://beloptik.de/en/

I have Coronado BF30 blocking filters which rust a lot.

Latest change I made based on info from here is to take out the ITF filter and just put a 12nm H-alpha filter there. H-alpha filter used for Deep Space Objects photography.

Look at my H-alpha full disk images where I use that combination.

For a Quark Chromosphere, it's only 12.5mm x 6.4mm

Why not contact Daystar ? the producer of that filter ...

In my opinion they should help you.

Yes they will, it's due to go back in a few months, after the UK solar 'season' but I would have sorted it my end before then.
Not a problem, a real shame there is not one UK manafactureer of these kinds of filters.

Cheers Mark,
I shall give it a go via that link.

Why specifically can the Maier 656 ITF Bandpass Filter NOT be used instead ?

It's not the cost but the lead time / distance.
Gave up yesterday & switched to WL as I'm just get a 'cloudy' stacked image now.

It's not a narrow enough filter. The Andover is 1 angstrom. The Maier has a huge bandpass in comparison.

'In theory' you could run the Quark (minus rusted filter removed) in the nosepeice of a Lunt or Coronado blocking filter, but you would probably want to run something like a 2" 7nm Ha ahead of the blocking filter and use full aperture DERF. Focus could be interesting.

Another option; you could email Fred Jabet at Airylab, this is where I got a 25mm Andover blocker from, it was a couple of hundred Euros - can't remember exactly how much, he may still have them for sale? this can be mounted in a m48 to 28.5mm filter holder (with a few bits and pieces) https://www.365astronomy.com/Filter-Ada ... hread.html

Thanks Mark,
I understand re the Maier filter now.
I shall try that link fella, seems like the UK could do with a filter manufacturer itself ;-)
