Nature of Coronado external etalon tuning
Nature of Coronado external etalon tuning
On Coronado Solarmax II scopes, why does the external etalon, used for double stacking, use both a tilt tuner and a compression (RichView) tuner? Thank you once again for your expert advice!

That's a very good question!
The original SM60 external etalon only has the T-Max adjustments.
The marketing hype says the Richview tuning is more "refined"
(I use a double stack of two original SM60 external etalons on an ED80 - works great...)

Hi Tim
a good question indeed. I have a SM90 with T-max and rich view, the rich view is really fine tuning , the t-max is basically moving the ghost sun away.

Re: Nature of Coronado external etalon tuning
An interesting subject. I have a redundant sm 11 double stacker with Rich View which I used on my PST. I have rigged it up in an experiment to my new LS60 but could not produce an image, I think that the Rich view adjustment makes it unsuitable for use. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yep; sell it to me cheap, it's no good to you now Robin...
How much?

Re: Nature of Coronado external etalon tuning
Lief,
The etalon only tilts one way from the "flat" and that is towards the blue.
Etalons (both Lunt and Coronado) are "factory set" just above the Ha (red wing) and then tilt into Ha and then on to the blue wing....

Re: Nature of Coronado external etalon tuning
Speaking of this particular unit, can it be mounted in a refractor AFTER the objective, to get full aperture?
Yes ... if surrounded by telecentric lens packages ... you'd also need to figure out how to access the tuning mechanism if embedding the etalon into a tube.
