Suggestiosn for a WL/CaK OTA

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day all...

I am slowly getting back to more time at the scope, and although my Celestron CR-150 OTA is giving good WL results wit the Lunt 2" Wedge, its performance on CaK is poor. Even stopping it to 115mm or so to get f10 does not improve things. In good seeing (good for me that is) the WL is sharp and the CaK is pretty much a waste of time.

I have the option to go back to the C102 (102mm, f10) OTA, or replace the OTA with another that is more CaK friendly. Any suggestions???

I believe the Explore Scientific 5/6" OTA have been well received for WL work, but I've lost track of any CaK reviews on them. These fit my budget better than an APO ;)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Brian

The C102 has been hard to beat in the Cak department, just can't get a full disc umless you have a seriously big chip on your cam. We tried the Explore 102 APO version and it did ok, Very easy to get the full disk but al lil softer detail than the C102 close in. I dont know how the Explore 102 achro would pan out but with the same focal ratio and length it too should get the full dsic. I have no idea how it would perform close in.

I'm not overly worried about the full disk, as I can put the CaK blocker on a shorter fl scope for that purpose. I'd like a bit more aperture than the C102 if I could manage to get a suitable scope.

Hi Brian

I'm very happy with my WO 110 and the lunt and klunt filter. Gives full disks with Basler 1300

I use a Tal100RS and find it excellent for CaK/WL http://www.firstlightoptics.com/tal/tal ... embly.html Much better then my Meade AR5.
