Point Grey camera with Sony ICX 445 mono sensor - great solar stuff

Post by Pablito »

Hi,

I have for sale two solar/planetary/lunar cameras - PTGrey Chameleon and Flea2

Chameleon is one of the most popular cameras for solar work due to very sensitive and hi res sensor. It has 18fps speed and USB2 connection to PC.
Flea2 has the same sensor but is much faster - 30fps at full frame. It's FireWire version but I have proper ExpressCard34 if reqired (for 20eur).

Chameleon - 340eur shipped worldwide
Flea2 - 520eur shipped worldwide

Payment via PayPal or Bank transfer

Trades are possible plus cash from any side. Some solar gear, USB3.0 camera or maybe something else ;)

I also have Point Grey Grasshopper camera with mono ICX285 sensor. I hoped to keep it but... Ok, make me an offer on it. It also has FW connection.

I could really use the Grasshopper in the outreach program which makes this forum and the websites possible if you feel philanthropic at any point. I have a lot of other cameras I could trade but I don't have the budget to outright buy it unless you make an incredible deal.

Stephen,
I can't afford to give it for free right now... But you mentioned (quite) long time ago that you have some solar stuff that you don't use (some etalons, BFs etc.). If you still have something that you don't need, let me know. Maybe we both could be happy ;)

sounds reasonable but I have a rule that I only give away extra solar stuff for free through the Jon Wood Award program. I dont sell or trade anything, just give it away to club members. I didnt realize that you had the 1.3MP version until I looked closer. That one, while a great camera, is not big enough for me to use anyway as I have to broadcast full disks.

Ok, I understand.

But if you want to get full disk, big sensor is not the only solution. You could use shorter focal lenght, try with some focal reducers. I have one (cheap) 0,5x focal reducer that gives me full disk at 714mm FL and 1/3" sensor. But it's quality is poor so images are also poor... I use it as endcap for my camera ;) Something with better quality should help :)

ya, I am familiar with that. I have 3 Grasshoppers now, the 2.0MP, the 2.8MP and the 5 MP. I use a focal reducer on the Coronado DS90s to get the full disk on these chips. I also have several 1.3MP cameras, the Chameleon, the Opticstar, the Flea, etc.. and the full disk will not fit on them even with a focal reducer on my F7-F9 scopes.

I have a grasshopper 2 mono 285 that I am looking to sell cheap, I want to buy a Grasshopper Express and take some of the pain out of it by selling the 2.

Anyone feel free to make me a real lowball offer!

I actually need the money to buy a camera for another community project that I am donating my time an equipment too, so I can't afford to donate it unfortunately. I earn so little that I hardly pay any tax, so that won't work for me either I'm afraid.
