**Wanted** Lunt CaK module.

Post by MjrTom » Sat Mar 09, 2013 12:59 am

Hello guys and gals :)

I know it's a long shot but do any of you have a spare Lunt B600 CaK module which you would be willing to sell to a budding Solar imager?
Or anyone thinking of upgrading to a B1200 but have not done so yet.

I would like to do some Calcium K line imaging with my 77ED and DMK31

If you can help me in my quest please let me know

Hi Walter,
Sorry missed your reply to my advert.

How economical is it to buy the parts for a Mod CaK vs say a B600 CaK at £1000?

If you can get hold of a CaK PST it is very economical ;)

Yeah thanks Mark,

I have been on the look out for one but CaK seems to be the specialist end of the specialist group that solar astronomy is so not much coming up for sale :(

Hi Mark

Mark T. is so right. There is only one other chance. Get a B1200 Luntwedge with rusted hot mirrors. The secret is in the little square piece near the eyepiece/camera. But I think that is even harder to find then a CaK PST

Thanks Walter :-)

How easy is it to mod a CaK PST to increase the aperture?
Are they also optimised for an f/10 optical light path?

Very easy. Just unscrew the tube from the black box, remove the front filter element from the front of the black box, then use this with a Baader continuum filter in a solar wedge (with no ND filters) - that's it!

My experience is the longer the focal ratio the more contrast the image has...

I just ordered from Lunt (with a four month lead time) and am planning on an aperture mask on my TSA120 to reduce the aperture to 90mm resulting in F10. Mark, I am shooting at F10, but is that sufficient?
Warmest regards,

~Steve~
