[FYI] JTW Astronomy's custom CNC'ed solar filter

Posted: Mon Jul 01, 2013 10:49 am
A heads up for anyone looking for white light solar filters.

One of my sponsors recently added a new product to their line of products: custom CNC solar filters. You can have them made custom for your telescope including one for your finder scope. The filter itself is Baader Astro Solar so basically you are paying for the CNC'ed parts.

By the way, I am not sure if I am allowed to post this here so if not: my apologies and no problem if it is taken offline again.

They look nice! 8) Do you make them with baader ND3.8 film?

What would be really good would be if you did a m50 to 2" nosepiece adapter...

They're custom so ND3.8 or 5 is a possibility. I don't understand what you would want with an adapter like that? This filter is to be used in front of the objective.

That's good to know either ND5 or ND3.8 can be configured.

I was thinking about the m50 to 2" nosepiece adapter for PST mods - if you made such an adapter you would sell a lot, i'm sure, people are always after them on here... ;)

Now I get what you mean. But then it would be even better if there were several sizes (lenghts) of those adapters with a built in 1.25" placeholder for a barlow. I'm not completely in the know on how these PST mods work but it's basically an adapter for any refractor on a PST backend, is it not? And then there's a barlow placed somewhere in the light path, location of the barlow depending on the size and length (F) of the scope?

I'll give you all the details you need.....
Just drop me an email kenm.harrison(at)gmail(dot)com for a copy of the PST Mod write-up.
(I've contacted Mark at JTW and he says, yes, he can machine the "special" adaptors. I'll send him a copy of the drawings)

I've given JTW sketches for three alternative PST rear etalon adaptors:
A 2" female version
A SCT threaded version
and a
T-threaded version....
