**FOUND** front mounted etalon (40mm-50mm)
**FOUND** front mounted etalon (40mm-50mm)
Hello all B)
I am on the lookout for an extra etalon for my Solarscope SV50
Currently I am using a Coronado SM40/ PST double stack unit which gives great views.
However tiltuning is very hit and miss and would like to get hold of a Richview one of possible.
Alternatively an SF50 front etalon but the cost might be an issue.
Lastly a Lunt LS50 might also do the job, not sure of the diameter of the filter housing an whether a suitable adapter could be made.
The advantage of the SM40 a 62mm to 52mm step down ring is all that is needed to attach the SM40 etalon to the SV50.

Re: **Wanted** front mounted etalon (40mm-50mm)
Mark,
When you say tuning is very hit and miss with the sm40 unit, what do you mean? Can you elaborate a bit more? There may be a few tricks can offer to make it behave more like you want. A richview 40 may just display the same issues as you're having already...

Re: **Wanted** front mounted etalon (40mm-50mm)
Thanks for your input Mark.
The tilt tuner is very sensitive and the tilt wheel is very loose.
It tilts fine but its difficult to tune it accurately. This is my reasoning for showing interest in the richview etalon since this allows finer adjustment.
Since my original post I thought I would strip down the tilt assembly and I noticed that only one tilt compression spring present however there is a drilled recess for one each side of the brass thumb wheel.
Since I bought the filter secondhand a previous owner must have been tinkering with it and lost one of the springs.
I found two matching springs in my box of bits which although not quite the same but should do the job.
I also added a bit of Teflon tape to the threads of the brass thumb wheel and now the tuning seems much more positive.
Hopefully the sun will be out tomorrow and I can double check it.
I would still like to look at options for other etalons if anyone has anything going spare

Hi Mark
we could speak about a LS50, mint conditions but expensive ;-)

Hello Walter,
Thanks for replying.
I suspect that it might be out of my price range but we can discuss it in more detail.

Hi Mark..thats cool ! I am thinking of also going down the DS route on my SV-50 though it is one of the very early all black versions with allen key tuning of the etalon. I'll certainly look forward to seeing how your system performs...
