Eclipse misunderstandings - what have you encountered?

Post by Anthony M »

A family member concerned for the safety of my nephew and nieces vision texted me asking if it was safe to take a photo of the eclipse with her iPhone to let her kids see it (by looking at the photo).

And, in an Email from the lead teacher to all teachers at my elementary school today, they instructed staff to keep all students indoors during and after the eclipse for the day as there would be after affects up to a couple hours afterwards. In addition, kids were to be escorted to the bathroom while wearing protective glasses.

-Ok, I really have to hold an educational astronomy program for the school staff, and soon. I can't believe they want kids to stay indoors and miss it, and especially havingbthem wear solar glasses while being escorted to the bathroom! "After effects" lasting for hours? I feel bad that we are going to be out of town watching the eclipse in totality, because it would be interesting to see how it goes at work!

What types of eclipse misunderstandings have others here encountered?

That is so very sad to hear, you would think we were living in the middle ages!!! if I was a kid I think I would be leading a protest march against stupid uneducated adults, it is their choice to see the eclipse and their choice to close their eyelids if it gets a bit bright (as they usually do on most sunny days of their life so far).
