All things nice

Post by Montana » Tue Jun 25, 2019 2:59 pm

On Friday night I manged to spot a lovely noctilucent cloud display around 23:30BST. The star is Capella.

Then since Saturday I am a bit sleep deprived learning deep sky imaging but I did manage to roll out of bed and take these around 11am this morning. It was very hot and bad seeing.

Back to the deep sky processing learning now.

Superb, especially the animation. No darkness here for a few weeks but I guess there might be NLCs....

Beautiful images, Alexandra.

I kicked myself for missing the view that night. The sky was clear...absolutely cloud free, but I didn’t hang around long enough to see these develop. I kept checking 30-60 minutes after sunset, but I should have been more patient like you were. Maybe there will be another chance later this week if the clear skies return.

May I ask, what camera settings did you use for the NLCs?

Thanks guys :)

Stuart, they were quite bright, ISO200 and 0.62 sec. You need to check between 23:00 and 0:00, and between 2:00-4:00, this is when I have seen them.

Hi Alexandra,

Good captures (and animation). I noticed these as well on Friday and it was indeed spectacular. For a short time these were even visible (very bright) almosts straight up. (Maybe 20 minutes, then only at lower degrees) Had no camera within reach. Pitty

Regards,

Paul
