found you

Post by swisswalter »

hi all

now I found you almost all where you hide. I'm now with the gang again.

thank you stephen for that portal. Great place to change informations on all topics, regardless of the brand as far as I have understood the rules, which I have read. I hope you don't mind my swiss english, but I'm too old to change it, but I'm always willing to learn and to fiddle around scopes and filters

Hi Jim, Hi Chris

thank you for the welcome. Yes later on I will try to upload a file or two to see how that works here. I'm expecting good shots in the coming spring when my home made scope is finished ;) and the sun a little bit higher than now

Hi Mark

thank you very much. It is so much easier here, not watching always which rule you are just violating or not ;-)

Well, Cloudy Nights has certainly been a benefit to me and I appreciate what they do. I strongly feel that Solar Astronomy is a completely different animal than that sissy nighttime stuff and we deserve our own little forum on the net. I do have a new appreciation for CN though as the forum is constantly being attacked by spammers and people who think it is somehow profitable to post there ads for penis enlargement pills and pornography.

I have had a little difficulty fitting in to the nighttime club scene. Those guys seem a lot more interested in who gets the credit and praise for their work and don't seem real interested in having other people come up and use their "good" equipment. I tried to report my events through both of the clubs I belong to and neither one seemed too interested. I have seen the totals on the Night Sky Network and I have done more events and seen more people than the top 3 clubs combined but I am not welcome to report my efforts there because I am not a club? It all seems really strange to me. The bottom line is how do we get the most possible people at the eyepieces so that they can enjoy the Sun's beauty and possibly get inspired to get out there and do more with themselves....isn't it?

This forum, the review site and the main site are all just done from my home office in my spare time because I have seen hundreds of times what a fun hobby like solar astronomy, music, painting or hiking, etc.. can do for a persons outlook and how it can help them to stop being so self absorbed and stressed out over their little irrelevant problems and possibly get out and enjoy life more. It is my strongest desire to let every adult and student that comes through my program know that I care about them and I want them to fully enjoy life and be the best that they can be...period. It just so happens that I use solar astronomy to do so because I already knew a little bit about it.

I do very much appreciate everyone coming here and making it the lively forum that it has become. I wish that you would tell your friends and colleagues. It was originally intended to give us solar nerds our own little plasce where we would not be bothered with all of the silly restrictions and terms of service necessary to run a much larger , legally liable, forum.
Anyway, I digress...enjoy the site. Im off to vector some airplanes...gotta pay the bills...

Walter, Bill E reminded me to tell people that the first 10 posts require a captcha code be typed in to validate that you arent a computer generated porn pedalling nutjob. After your tenth post, it will go away. Sorry for the inconvenience but we had a rash of spam within a week of opening the forum. i removed 250+ fake user accounts that were spamming us with filth.

Stephen, It is so refreshing to see your attitude towards our wonderful hobby and you are certainly trying to better the way we exchange information and techniques in a more open way. One thing I have noticed about the CN forum is that rarely does anyone say anything to folks that post really bad images, to help them get better. Its always "kudos" or "great job" even if the image is awful. In the deep sky imaging forums I used to be part of, we would always point out how an imager could improve thier work by suggesting a technique or processing flow to make them improve. Thats what I want to see more of HERE> Lets openly exchange concept and processing ideas and if someone posts an image truly in need of improvement (read: awful) Let the more experienced imagers open up and offer help! Thank you once again for starting this new more exclusive forum. I have very high expectations here.

Hi Chris

thank you for your input. I agree and do not agree with you.

first of all: I'm sure that this site will rock the scene within a year. I'm willing to help that this happen's.

Regarding the "kudos" and so. We all try to be polite, not offending anybody. People soon recognise what the difference is between say:

nice shot
very nice shot
fine shot
very fine shot
excellent shot
wonderful shot
exeptional shot
master piece
etc.

So I agree with you to lead somebody gently to improve some details, but I do not agree to do that in a manner how it is done in other sites.

I'm sure new comers who post pics will very, very soon recognise tha potential they have and work on it.

In my opinion it is important what happens here in that forum. We exchange information freely how we did it and not how it has to be done.

I'm looking forward to a new age of "suncapture"

right from the top of the page...

The intent is to appreciate the Sun, our life giving star, in creative and beautiful ways . Please visit often.

If you want to appreciate the Sun by helping someone else who wants your help imaging then thats what the forums for. If you want to just show everyone your beautiful interpretations of the Sun without all of the imaging "fervor for improvement" stuff then thats OK too.

I mean, come on....the Sun is doing all the work. We are just lucky enough to be able to show it off.!

I do get some good tips here and there for sure.

There is a "Thank You " feature on the bottom left of each post if you just want to let someone know you appreciated their image also.

there are no content rules and if something crazy comes up (like the constant spammers) then you will just have to trust me to remove whatever I determine needs removing. Of course I will barrage you with huhmiliating verbal abuse first, then block any replies you may have...:)
