My best Hydrogen Alpha images from Sunday mornings session...

Post by Cschur »

Hello solar friends,

Seeing was around 3/5 but shot through thickening cirrus haze. So most of these Images were of lower contrast than normal, and the maximum number of frames was round 1000 between clouds. No matter. I did my best and hope you will not throw tomatoes at me! These are with the Lunt LS100tha, DMK51 reduced to 1290 size, and processed in AVI Stack. OK, lets start with the Full disk with the .5x Antares focal reducer:

The main featurs of course is the huge sunspot group AR1429/30 and the large filament on the disk.

Next we zoom in on the huge active region. the 2.5x televue powermate was used, which is normally all I can go at this wavelength. (Green I can go 2x more)

Here is a close up of the giant filament

and another that also includes AR1433:

Finally, we zoom in on AR1434

Thanks for looking, maybe less haze next time!

Hey Chris, very nice set of images! Nice 3D effect on the filament and good processing all round.

No tomatoes from me! Great images! I always find I can't use as much magnification in my Ha images as I can in WL, if I try high mag Ha shots I find things just go mushy and soft very quickly...

Great images Chris. Sometimes with cirrus seeing is much better in spite of the low contrast.

best regards

Thanks everyone! while the prom shots are far too low in contast due to the haze, I was satisified with the fairly good seeing between clouds.

I think they are all extremely beautiful, especially the one of 11429 and it's pretty petals of filaments.

Tomatoes, never!

A Big Thanks to everyone, I feel much more comfident now. For this set, I have a new processing routine which will eliminate the really dark Halpha images I have sometimes posted. Sometimes you cant see the trees through the forest! (Or perhaps here I should say "You cant see the Sunspots through the Granulation".

Autostackert Updtate - Emil contacted me and sent me the beta to try, and it runs perfectly on the ASUS speedster. But now another problem with the program..........

Hi Chris,
Great images, all of them. Your images have a real load of details and they are smooth at the same time. Very pleasant !!

Thanks for the views,

Fernando
