May 31 2015 What 150mm is capable of. PICTURE ADDED.

Post by Valery »

Hi all,

Today I started to use my lawn at backyard as the observatory place instead of balcony at 50m above a ground.

I can say that seeing is noticeably less steady, but some moments still excellent. So, as high from the ground as better as more frequentl the seeing.

Double Stack helps to underline filamentary structure of the sub surface in apper chromosphere.

SW 150mm F/5 refractor + Aries full aperture ERF filter + ARIES Solar kit + LS50 DS + PGR Flea3 GigE ICX445 mono camera.

Thanks for looking.

Valery.

Excellent detail Valery. The lawn should be O.K. but not looking over buildings, roads, vehicles etc.... that cause thermals. At 50m high the air flow I would think would be quite laminar hence better seeing. Still great images.

Great prom shots, Valery. I also like how you maintained detail in the bright areas of the filament images.

Cracking images, Valery. I don't think I've ever experienced excellent seeing. Usually we have the Jetstream, or just awful general turbulence here in the UK, especially with roadways, house roofs and trees to contend with!

Here is relatively "desert" solar face area and you can see how much swirls and short thin filaments can be photographed through a 150mm aperture at good seeing and proper filtration. I believe that even during solar minimum many interesting events can be enjoyned.

To see the full resolution, click on the image, please.

Fantastic shots with great resolution. I agree even a "quiet" sun is beautiful at high-res. Maybe I need a Lunt 152 for solar min!

Kevin,

Only a double stack version of a 6" scope can deliver such a level of details.

Very good images Valery. I also agree that we should be able to continue imaging interesting details despite solar lull.

Unfortunately, the desire itself is not enough. Sufficient aperture (at least 5", better 6" and up) and really narrow filter are necessary.
As well as... the seeing! The deeper minimum, the smaller the scale of the changes on the sun surface!

I personally am going to use my perfect optically C14 with very narrow filter in H-a and 6" to 11" aperture and double stacked filter in CaK.
Hope that this will be enough to keep me busy and interested in solar activity patrolling at the sun minimum.
This cost a lot, of course, but well worth of money spent. I did the next in a row step - I have bough an EQ8 mount for the C14.
I will mount C14 on it and two refractors 150mm and 100mm in parallel to C14.

Found some more time to process the pictures of this day on the Sun.

Some tiny prominences were there too, but as imapressive as large ones, but still interesting to look at.

Click on it for a full resolution.
