May 6th Images

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

Here I have the images from Sunday. I started off in Ha, and moved into WL and CaK as the morning progressed. Seeing was moderate to start (2-3), but by the time I finsihed near noon at had dropped off and the longer focal length CaK images were pretty soft.

The first images are the full disk Ha, WL, and CaK, all imaged with the Lumenera Infinity 2-1M camera. The Ha was taken through the LS80T/DSII/B1200Ha + 0.8x telecompressor, and the William Optics 72mm scope was used with the Lunt Solar Wedge and Lunt B1200CaK modules.

Most of the activity was around the 2 large AR's and the long filament which was visible on the SE limb. There were imaged with the 2x teleconverter, covering close to 1/4 of the disk.
Here, AR1476 is coming into view on the NE limb along with several small dark filaments:

and to the south is the long filament on the SE limb:

I tried a new set-up using the 5x Powermate with a t-thread adapter to reduce the effecive magnification, and I am not sure of the actual EFL of these shots, but I expect it is in the 3-4x range.

First is AR1476, which I was quite happy with the results:

The SW limb shows AR1471, AR1469 as well as a large 'clump' of a filament close to AR1469 on the limb:

and AR1471 to finish off the high power Ha sets:

My WL and CaK images at longer focal lengths follow below.

At prine focus of the C102 with the Lunt Solar Wedge, we have AR1474,1475,1476 (below), and AR1469 abd 1471 in the second pic.

The seeing seemed to tolerate the 2x teleconverter:

I grabbed a few images wit the C102 and Lunt B1200CaK module...seeign was getting pretty soft at this point, but the NEa nd SW quadranst arw shown below:

All in all, a nice spring day and soem good solar activity to view and image. I did set up a small Ha scope late in the afternoon and it showed that the prom around AR1471 had evolved, but I did not do any more imaging.

Questions and comments are welcome, as always.

Brian

What an amazing collection Brian, especially the Cak of AR11471 as it has such a fabulous 'bright ring', great pictures :)
