AR1356 Flaring this weekend

Post by Cschur »

Hi all,

I captured AR1356 right in the middle of a mild flare this weekend, and I thought id share it with you! Seeing was MUSH, but It was a good oppourtunity to become more familiar with the LS100. So here is is - FULL SIZE.

Details:

Lunt LS100THa, 2x coronado barlow (junk), and DMK3U camera. I should be recieving this week my new Televue 2.5x power mate to replace the coronado. Thanks for looking!

Very nice! I tried a bit today myself but seeing was not good in northern CA either. My friend brought over her 100mm Lunt and I tried out the DMK51. You have a very nice scope there my friend!

Makes my 60mm look like a finder scope!

Excellent catch Chris!

At least you can still see the sun :)

Thanks Ken and Alexandra. Hey Ken - where did you get your DMK51?

I got my DMK51 by calling the Imaging Source and ordering it.

Thanks Ken and Alexandra. Hey Ken - where did you get your DMK51?

ImagingSource was one of my sponsors at AIC this year. They gave us two of them as door prizes and an attendee won one after she had already bought one at AIC. So I am buying it from her.

Now I have a 41 to sell at some point.

I am very interested in learning more about the DMK51. Are thes models available without any delay? What are your first impressions (Ken and Stephen).

The Flea 3 ~1600 x 1200 is more expensive but has the advantage of the 12 bits.

best

Not sure if the 12bit will help with solar imaging. What I did notice was a larger dynamic range with the imaging controller. What I mean is the sliders for gamma - exposure - ect had larger and more sensitive ranges. I used it for about 1/2 hour as the seeing was not great but the transparcy was nice. I have to look to see if the pixels were smaller as the sampling seemed to be a bit higher also.

Worked real nice though, loaded the driver and replaced the 41 and it was even close to focus.

Thanks Ken:

The DMK51 is extremelly interesting and I agree that the 12bits are not a must for solar imaging. I do not see much diference when I use my Skynyx 2-0M (12 bits) in comparison to the DMK41. The main diference is the number of frames per second (60/s Skynyx as opposed to 15/s - DMK41 and 12/s - DMK51)

best regards

So if I am now using the DMK31, what advantage would the 51 have as far as solar imaging? My seeing is usually poor so maybe the 41 is a better choice?

I have the 21,31,41,51 and I much prefer the 21 for prominences and the 51 for full disks...

Chris hope the 2.5powermate works out. I find the 5x has bright area(recent pic). I find my 2x Celesteron Ultima works well but I have found the perfect mate to my Gstar camera in the 2.4x Vixen Tele-extenderhttp://www.myastroshop.com.au/products/details.asp?id=MAS-053B

we are only talking about an image scale of around 6% finer sampling. I would rather have the information to be able to extract out.

DMK41
Type progressive scan
Format 1/2 "
Resolution H: 1360, V: 1024
Pixel size H: 4.65 µm, V: 4.65 µm

DMK51
Type progressive scan
Format 1/1.8 "
Resolution H: 1620, V: 1220
Pixel size H: 4.40 µm, V: 4.40 µm
