Wednesday Morning Fun With The HaT - 4th May

Post by marktownley »

Hi there,

I was rather late getting up this morning, and so everything seemed a bit of a rush ending up getting set up at 6am (rather than 5!). I got my etalon warming up so by the time everything else was up and running on the mount the green light was on and was ready to view. Looking through the eyepiece the view was jaw dropping, lots going on! Bear in mind some of these shots were taken only 45 mins after sunrise, so our star is still low in the sky and looking through the haze. Seeing wasn't perfect, but better than I get after work at 5pm. These were all taken through the Airylab HaT (203mm 5.6m fl) with the PGR Blackfly IMX249 camera.

By far my favourite was the new active region on the limb, the surge proms were so dynamic you could see them moving in very slow motion through the eyepiece on the HaT. I spent some 15 mins glued to the eyepiece mesmerised, just wathing it change. I snapped away from it to take some images. This timelapse is just 9 frames spanning 4 minutes, it really was shifting. If it is still spitting away in the morning I might try for a shorter temporal cadence.

Hoping the blue skies are still around in another 9 hours...

Hope you like!

Mark

Great set of images and a fabulous animation.
The seeing was still reasonable when the sun cleared the trees at about 8.45 but went down hill by late morning. Think your 'crack of dawn' slot will give you much better results than the after school shift!

Hi Mark!

Thank you for a wonderful presentation of the morning sun. Like everybody else I enjoyed the animation. I also liked the various still images a lot. They are very inspiring for me.
It looks like you really get a lot out of your new HaT.

All the best from

I know what you mean, I was rushing these at work yesterday and thought myself on reflection they looked a bit washed  I think I had the exposure too high on capture, too much light.
