Quark testing - no laughing please!
Please do not say what nice pics these are, only the truth please..
My Quark came back from the menders in November and so yesterday was the first time I could test. It seems seeing was bad for Quarks in general yesterday (but not Solarscopes) but these are just, well I can't say on here. What is this? before my Quark was sent away to have the heater fixed it did not have this irregularity in colour, it was pretty much flat and didn't need a flat field. How can changing the heater change the field???
These are the only pics that Autostakkert doesn't freeze up on so the full set is not available. At least 'on-band' is somewhere in the middle
-1 -1 + flat field 0 +1 I'm going to curl up and die now

Re: Quark testing - no laughing please!
OMG Alexandra, that's awful! Relegate it to a paperweight where it at least might find a useful purpose. It certainly isn't a solar imaging instrument in its present condition, that's for sure.
Actually, send it back as not fit for purpose. It may be 'inexpensive' compared with other solar equipment, but it still needs to comply with the basic functions it was promised to deliver. Daystar need to exchange it for one that actually works, as you've had nothing but trouble with this pathetic specimen.
Good luck!
Stu.

Sorry for you Alexandra, although I'm not surprised. My last quark was sent back three times, and the last one wasn't even good...

Alexandra these are reminiscent of my old Daystar tilt tune.I think to be perfectly honest with Daystar you get what you pay for to some degree with these Quarks when compared to their better filters .There will of course be rare good ones.To be perfectly honest your pst images and what your Solarscope produces I wouldn't,t worry my quark sits in a draw waiting for a rare day of goo seeing when I can put it on my 152 mod actually I meant good seeing goo is what it has been for the past 18 months.Just as an asideI have had honey equipment I have paid several thousand dollars for spent many hours fine tuning it only to go back to my old set up as it breaks down less.I understand your frustration .

Re: Quark testing - no laughing please!
Absolutely horrible situation.
I feel your pain, Alexandra.
May be this is not your repaired Quark. May be your etalon was mixtured and lost among others.
An etalon which does not require a flat field correction is EXTREMELY rare.

This is not good. It is worse than my uncontacted SM90II that I sent to be repaired...
Send it back and ask for a refund

Re: Quark testing - no laughing please!
The hubby is cross, he is also insisting I return it, but he won't let me have another. So I will be Quarkless, no more high res.
I had a wonderful 3 months No flat was used in my very first image as I was doing the etalon testing.

Re: Quark testing - no laughing please!
Alexandra, this is, I can assure you, as frustrating for me as it is for you. Obviously we will come up with a plan to get a full refund as I think Daystar have had enough chances. As you know the original Quark supplied to you had very even illumination. The first time it went back we made a point of telling Daystar that they were NOT to replace it but repair it. You, quite sensibley put 'AH' on the body. After however many weeks I was told by Daystar they would not replace it as it had been defaced! Doohh! We then got it back and as you know it did not seem to be repaired. The second time it went back (with the same 'repair only' instruction), they said the fault was it had gone out of calibration. It still had 'AH' on it but by the looks of these images it seems to me they have changed it.

Re: Quark testing - no laughing please!
Wow. I was linked to see this thread. I'm having a lot of issues also, and almost identical: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22432
I've already had one bad quark, a bad daystar reducer and now a second really, really bad Quark. Would be nice to now how these issues are solved with Daystar.
I'd like to be imaging, not pulling my teeth out because of a continuous stream of bad samples while I'm spending my money and those few good days of a short summer
