Solar granulation and Ca-H with solar newtonian - June 12

Post by krakatoa1883 »

An image of the solar granulation taken this morning in fine seeing with a small 130mm Skywatcher solar newtonian, Baader K-filter and 5x Powermate. With the same instrument I also taken a couple of images with a Daystar Calcium-H device, some bright details close to the limbs.

These really are quite nice images! I'm assuming the mirror is still coated?

Thanks to all for your appreciation.

@Mark: I have uncoated the primary mirror only and left the secondary untouched. Observing in WL requires about the same filtering of a Herschel prism.

Best,

Fantastic work. Can you tell us what kind f setup have you used? Primary mirror has ERF coating?

Tks

no ERF, just a common parabolic mirror with its coating removed.

Wow, really awesome granulation for a 130mm!

I can't get convection cells that size with my 120mm refractor with a 3x barlow & continuum filter.

Very best,
