June 24th Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day all...

My presence on the form has been somewhat thin in the past 2 months or more...poor weather and 90hr weeks at work have not allowed me much time to log in nor do any observing/imaging. The few clear days in May and earlier in June when I was able to get under the sun produced poor results.

I had a clear sky all day Saturday, and thanks to torrential downpours on Friday I managed to get home early in the afternoon and couldn't pass up the chance to do some solar work. I was pleasantly surprised to see the big filaprom on the western limb of the sun to greet my return to the observatory.

I started in White Light getting a full disk through the iStar 150mm, f8 OTA and Lunt solar wedge/Baader Continuum filter using the ZWO ASI1600MM camera:

I added a 2x barlow to the system and tried a higher resolution image of AR2664 and the departing plague associated with AR2662 on the western limb:

The balance of the images were taken in Ha through the Lunt LS80T/DSII/B1200Ha solar scope and PGR camera (ICX674 chip). As I was grabbing the full disk images I could tell the seeing was deteriorating as the session went into the early afternoon, so I stayed with this scope. Below is a full disk composite of the disk and limb images:

I added a 2.5x barlow to the nose of the camera and grabbed a few videos of AR2664 and the big prom. Below is AR2664:

This closes off the images from the session...always a treat to get back under the sun!

Questions and comments are always welcome.

A lovely set of images Brian! I know what you mean about not getting the sun, i've been busy at work with getting coursework in off students, examiners coming in etc, so that when I get home i've been whacked, and while the weather hasn't been ideal all of the time when it has been good it has been a real effort to get off the sofa. Still, things are backing off a bit now, so hopefully I can get some more viewing in fingers crossed!

Lovely stuff Brian, hope you get a bit more spare time to image. My neighbours have been taking advantage of the dry weather this week to make sileage. They have been working very long days to get it done before the weather broke.
Best wishes,
David

Eric and David...

Thanks for your comments...always appreciated!!!

David...we had a week of relatively dry weather to take off silage, but dry has has been a disaster, planting has been over 3 weeks to a month late, and timely herbicide/fungicide applications has been a massive headache.
