Imaging for the third time this summer... makes me pretty much laugh at the weather Anyway, this morning the sky was clear and the seeing was pretty nice, so I took my gear out and built my base near the local golf range hoping that no-one would hit a 180 degree cork-screw. I was lucky and returned with 100 % working gear. I did some experimenting with my setup in order to try to push out all it has to deliver and to get the surface details and protus with the same exposure. The images start to be quite good for a 80/480 refractor with a so-so Quark. Around the noon the seeing was good to excellent (on Finnish standards, it's actually never excellent here) and these are the best of the bunch. The images below are 5 % stacks out of 5000 frame videos and you can get them a bit bigger by clicking on them. Captured with FireCapture v2.6 beta, stacked with AutoStakkert3!, processed with ImPPG and colored with Photoshop.
Setup: Baader D-ERF, TS 80/480 APO, chromosphere Quark, 0.5x reducer, ZWO ASI178MM.

Tommi!
Fantastic detail in just 80 mm aperture. I have tried and tried to get the most detail out of my 100 mm Lunt but are not able to match this in any way. Great work!

Hi, Tommi
The quality of the prom detail is immediately obvious.
I see you're using an ASI 178. Under certain conditions, doing Ha imaging, my 178 shows a "grid" of tiny squares in the background called "fixed noise pattern". Have you experienced this effect with your camera? It's one reason I don't use this camera much for high resolution imaging.

Re: AR 2665 and proms from way up north
Thanks for the comments!
Lou,
I do see that fine detail in my raw material. As I newer align my mount perfectly (mobile setup) I get some self-induced "dithering" in to my videos as the sun moves a bit during each video capture. This with a flat video (either plastic bag or unfocused) takes care of it every time. Do you still have the issue even with flat? If so, then try to move the mount a bit during the data acquisition if you have "too good" of an alignment. There's also fixed noise pattern removal in AutoStakkert, I think. It could be handy with this also?

Re: AR 2665 and proms from way up north
Very nice results Tommi.
Lou: flats help getting rid of the pattern in the 178MM. But these are difficult to make due to the size of the 178 sensor. (at least with 0,5 reducer)
Wit AS!2 or AS!3 I did not find a way removing the pattern.
Rgrds,
Paul

Thanks for the response, Tommi and Paul, and for your suggestions. I confess that I tend to be a little lazy about post processing to with flats but, with this camera, I may have no other choice.
