July 9th - limited progress

Post by MapleRidge »

Good evening everyone...

I was looking forward to a nice session of solar imaging today, but the weather did not want to co-operate.

There looked to be a reprieve late in the morning, so I opened the dome and started to grab some full disk Ha (great views of AR2665 and the big prom), then moved to the 25cm scope to do some higher resolution work. I didn't get far along before the clouds came back, but managed to grab a few SER's in WL before the clouds returned and a brief shower followed. The breaks in the cloud were not long enough to even get the camera focused with the Daystar filter setup, so I called It a day at lunch.

Over the past 2 weeks the crops in the local fields have grown and there is far less bare soil to heat in the sun, and the seeing was a bit better today. To give an idea how poor and backwards the weather has been, I planted the first vegetable seeds in the garden yesterday ( Saturday) :? May get a few fresh peas and beans for a few meals in September...fingers crossed.

These first images are variations of colour schemes for the full disk in Ha, through the LS80T/DSII/B1200Ha and PGE camera (ICX674 chip):

Hi, Brian

That's an impressive "white" light image. It also serves to show the quality of the front ERF. Well done.
In a few minutes I'll send you an interesting PM about this filter.

Lou

Nice disks Brian, that close up in WL is a winner though - looks very good.

Impressive Brian especially the WL.You should get those G band filters that Alfred uses.

Very nice set Brian, I have a soft spot for the inverted prom variation :-)
Which filter is the 12nm Ha used for the "white light" images ?
Best wishes,
David

Hi David...

I missed your question about the inline Ha filter. This is a 1.25" Astronomik brand deep sky Ha filter (12nm bandpass).

The Airylab telecentric has a filter holder mounted inside and you can also use a UV/IR cut filter. When I met Frédéric from Airlab at NEAF he suggested the Ha filter as an option and I was able to find one at a decent price at the OPT booth.

I missed these, great shots Brian, a lovely detail and quality in the full discs and fantastic WL shots.
That is very very late for veg, I don't think I will emigrate to Canada then ;)

Thanks Alexandra...I'm hoping for some better weather through the rest of the summer and fall, along with time to actually be at the scope!!!

Don't let the weather scare you off  It is always changing ;)
