AR2665 Flare Animation to Limb - Triple Stacked SM90 - July 15, 2017

Post by nickatnight »

Still triple stacking this setup with 2x Solarmax 90mm etalons and a Combo Quark with Baader 3x on AT115EDT scope with ASI174MM camera. I have not wanted to pull apart my CPC925 camera/Quark rig, so I just moved the whole camera setup over to the AT115 refractor the the 90mm etalons. Don't know if there's a huge advantage to triple stacking, as it does dim things quite a bit.

Here's the flare that discharged material all the way to the limb. I used a new tool, Virtual Dub deflicker, to smooth out the animation a bit. Seems to work nicely. Thanks GreatAttractor.

And a reprocess with dark cantrast on the surface detail...maybe better view of flying material?

And here's a still with the triple stack...

And here was an experiment with binning...

And a still using the binned camera...

Thanks Eric and Valery. The flare was obvious during capture, and I thought I saw some bright spots near the limb after, but it wasn't until I animated it I really knew what I captured.

That is a great spray of material in the first ani, it is interesting how it stays white above the solar surface, usually these ejections show up as dark material until they get beyond the limb. This must be very hot material! :bow :hamster:

Out of interest can you provide a link to VirtualDub? I tried to download it once and it crashed the computer and the hubby refused to let me try again, perhaps I was on the wrong site or trying to load the wrong thing?

Thanks Derek and Alexandra. Pleased you enjoyed the animation.

Here's where I got VirtualDub...I used the 32bit version for Windows10.

http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

and here's the deflicker plugin I had to install separately.

Thanks folks. I've had varying results with the deflicker filter. Nothing beats clean even captures, that's for sure. On a recent attempt with deflicker it made an even fade from beginning to end, which although evened it out, was not really the result I wanted. I think feeding it even-ish levels from beginning to end works best. As my captures got consistently dimmer that day, it just smoothed out the dimming. Better to adjust during capture to even the histogram as much as possible.
