AR12665 on 07-16-17 with ARIES 265mm DERF + Made 10" DIY etalon system.

Post by Valery »

Hello to all,

Morning July 16 was a good time for testing of a newly finished DIY etalon system installed
on a friend's of mine 10" F/10 Made telescope equipped with ARIES 265mm three band D-ERF.

This test showed that every one can create an inexpensive imaging system for high resolution
imaging of the sun in narrow bands.

On the photo is the AR12665 group approaching the western sun limb. Seeing was average
with some rare improvements.

Thanks for looking and comments.

I don't know what you don't see! To be honest I am not sure what did you mean.

Hello Valery.
Now what I see: spicules are completely gone. Too long exposure time; The fine fibrils are therefore quite thick. The overall impression is too dark for me. The picture is distorted as often at SC. Do you have problems with internal tubeseeing?
What remains is the impressive message 10 "Meade SC!

What is this DIY etalon ?

Hello Christian,

This is a patiently selected PST etalon with a new surrounding optics. The optics has
the same diameters and edges thicknesses as the native optics. New optics optimized to be used in
a SCT telescopes. This optics is also for an F/10 native SCT light beam. Coma, spherical aberration, astigmatism
and the field curvature are corrected. Etalon works in a collimated beam.

This etalon also works nicely in a quazy-telecentric F/40-50 beam. I think that with Baader TZ4 it will
work even better. It's uniformity across 20mm field is FAR better than I see in my two 20mm PE grade
solid spaced etalons. I believe that with a specialized Baader TZ4 telecentric it will work really perfectly
uniformity wise and still at a narrow enough bandwidth.

I now have two PE grade solid spaced etalons 0,38A and 0,25A. They both are very good, especailly 0,25A one.
But this PST etalon shows brighter, more contrasty and better clarity image! Keeps higher magnifications.

Jozef,

I disagree. Exposure is too short for spicules and hense the darkness. Less contrasty images is not to my taste. I like dramatic
"landscapes" (as JP Brahic too). And, of course, I keep the image from too much sharpening - hense some thickier fibrills.

Note also, that fibrills are fast moving features and 30sec movie cadence (for gazering enough good frames) is may be too long
for image them thinnier. I need better seeing to shorten cadence.

Here is the same AR on another day and imaged with the same setup and blue wing shifted. May be you like these thinnier fibrils
better ?

Also, to see this and the first image in a full resolution, right click on the image and choose to open it in a different window.

Valery,
the taste is not an issue. You may like it dramatically! Well, they do not have to agree. Does not matter. ;)
This image is stunningly good. The double effect in this slight off-band is terrific. I really like it!
I'm currently using my Intes 6" f10 for halpha, but I still have sometimes distorted images, so I'm wondering: is this Internal mirroring or tubeseeing!
I see this effect (distorted) often at SC telescopes Ha / WL / CaK images.
Jozef

P.S: the ARIES 8 "D-ERF has by the way two small holes in the coating in the middle, which one sees when the sun is shining ...... I hope now that the coating does not take any further harm.

It is difficult to understand what do you really mean at "distorted". In a turbulent conditions, with all these possible optics misalingment etc etc and combined effect one can't be sure where the distorsion is came from.

I noted that complicated optical systems like Maks, reflectors and SCT usually work not as good as refractors. But they are much cheaper and much more easier to use at larger apertures.

Distorted: it looks like two equal images slightly moved in the same image. I can not imagine it better. This effect can also be seen in high magnifications on the moon in SC telescopes.

OK, I understand. "double" images. For moon images this can be the effect of atmospheric dispersion.

In a solar imaging this can be due to small amplitude shaking of the mount. Also may be astigmatism or coma or both.

Hello everyone.
A sample of today with Intes Micro 150/1500mm, Quantum SE 0,6" DS with LS50, PG G3 2x2 Binning. Seeing what just a disaster. There was only one thing.

It seems to me that this small opening responds more quietly and does not show this distortion.

Hi Jozef...

The filament looks good, and your seeing monitor readout looks a lot like my seeing so far this year ;)
