Camera rec for Lunt 80

Post by torsinadoc »

I have been using a ASI 174MM with my lunt 80. I am looking for a chip that is not under sampled. I moved my 174 to guide camera (great guide camera). I was considering the PG GS3-U3-32S4 (IMX 252) or GS3-U3-51S5 (IMX 250). Both are better sampled. I would also be using powermate 2.5. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

I was able to image through a friends 80mm single stack last month with a PG GS3-U3-32S4m, here are some images using a 3x tele-extender and a single shot full disc. I would point out that I am no expert and on the day the seeing was poor but if they are of any help.

I was just looking at the 252 chip. It looks like a very tight fit for the Sun FOV at the LS80 native focal length.

I would like to hear if anybody has experience with newton's rings with this chip.

Thanks for posting examples

252 looks tight for full solar image. 250 has little larger fov I believe

Newton rings are a problem with this chip but can be overcome, I use a "tilt adapter".

It looks like the 250/252 have better QE at the Halpha wavelength than the 174 chip, about 62% vs about 52% (from eyeballing the graph)
