August 5, 2017: More shots from the USA, with Ca-K proms this time

Post by michael.h.f.wilkinson »

Had another imaging session here, with the APM 80mm F/6, ASI178MM, and alternatively the Lunt Wedge with Baader Solar Continuum and Astronomik L filter to block the IR leak, or the Lunt Ca-K module. Seeing was pretty decent. I stacked 400 out of 4000 frames using AS!3, except for the prom shots, where I used 2000 out of 4000, the seeing was stable enough to allow that. Postprocessing was with ImPPG and Gimp.

Best seen at full resolution.

Thanks, everyone! Curious to see how eclipse images in Ca-K will come out

Nice shots, Michael. I'll be imaging in CaK too with a similar setup right up to totality and then I'll be switching to natural light to try to capture the corona.
