AR2670 at 8800mm

Post by gabrieli »

For the image below, I used the following:

Aries 265mm ERF + c9.25 + 2.5X Powermate + Quark Combo + 1.5X barlow + ASI174(under ROI).
I took a series of ser files at about 5900 mm and noticed that the SSM readout in the corner of my screen was dipping as low as 0.8 arcsec
for a few seconds at a time and also as high as 5 arcsec. I then added a 1.5X Barlow to the camera nosepiece and recorded similar ser files at about 8800 mm which I've never reached before. I stacked 80/800 frames (maybe this was too many because I doubt that 80 frames were recorded at 0.8 arcsec).

Hi Lou,

Excellent shot!

Thanks, all

I should add that this image was taken just before noon on a relatively warm day from my backyard which is covered in concrete pavers with 3 "islands" growing flowers with my scope aiming over people's rooves. So, moments of good seeing and warm, mid days are not incompatible. The SSM helps a lot, at least to make you aware that there are good moments.

I should add that, as some other people have mentioned, that prominences on the limb with my setup continue to be more challenging to image.
For them, I have to depend on my 152 Lunt double stacked.

Lou
