Frustrations and Success Today

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

I had little optimism that I would do any solar work today based on the weather forecast, but when the clouds looked like they would part around 10am I opened the dome and started to set up...and waited, and waited. Eventually the clouds broke enough to get a few full disk images with the LS80T/DSII/B1200Ha solar scope, and the views were spectacular with AR2673 churning away mid disk. It has been a long time since we have had so many AR's in view.

The image below is a composite of separate disk and limb frames taken around 14:00UT. There was a lot of cloud drifting through at times, so the background is not very uniform:
Full-Morning.jpg

I planned to try some higher res imager with the 3x Telextender, but cloud set in an I figured that was it for the day. Early in the afternoon a larger clear break set in, so I setup again and grabbed the disk/limb composite below at 17:05UT:

The proms on the south side of the limb changed dramatically over the 3Hr span between images, as did the filaments near AR2764.

It stayed clear long enough to allow me to grab a few images through the CR-150/Baader ERF/4x Powermate/Daystar Quantum 0.4A filter assembly with the ZWO174MM camera. I was fortunate to get AR's 2673:
and 2673 captured before cloud finished the day. A few hours later we were in downpours.

The first is AR2674:

The last is AR2673:

Despite the frustrations, it was great to get images of the larger, active AR's today...if they persist till later in the week I hope to have more time to image. I'm looking forward to following the reports and images that others post this week.

Thanks Franco...

I missed a clear day Saturday when we moved my son into residence at university (1st year), and figured the balance of the long weekend was lost. Nice to see the uptick in activity that I was following online.

These are a stunning set Brian, I love the detail in the full discs and so much activity in the close ups, I really hope I get to see the Sun at the weekend. :bow :hamster:
I had a wonderful time in the US enjoying many breakfasts with Maple syrup, it amazed me how they use it with everything, even on things I never imagined. It goes great with savory food like bacon, sausages etc and best of all I had a maple syrup grilled salmon, wow! that was the best tasting salmon I ever had. So the day we arrived home I tried to do the same myself and it was wonderful. That will definitely remain on the menu :hamster:

Lou, Alexandra, and Peter...

Many thanks to each of you for you comments. Always appreciated :bow

The AR's on the western limb should be well placed for any continued activity this weekend...hope that we have some nice proms to go along with the show.
