I hope these ARs put on a good show near the limb.

I really like the complexity in that last image. Great stuff Lou.

Hi
I am new to this forum - sent here from Charlie Bates Facebook Page and I am just a dabber - although from many years on and off ... and poor!

Anyway, which wedge did you use for these images?

I am personally thinking to get the Altair Solar Wedge [I am not really into solar at all!] so I can do something when weather here in the Cloudy UK is ... guess
... cloudy! ... but usually get a few decent hours during the day or before sunset for Solar.

I am still not sure if Altair Wedge would be focusing OK with the AR152 988mm and also using various filters and or a 0.5x reducer and Orion 0.8x Flattener - to get the scope down to wider fields.

Altair is doing a great job with Cameras and I guess this wedge too and at the same time trying to keep prices a bit lower than average.

i.e. trying to use the same scope for most of observation and imaging.

Any help from you experts?

Thanks
M

Sometime I use Explorer Scientific AR152/988 + Used once only... Altair 2" Solar Wedge (very good indeed)
Will try and do it justice when I can with the help of various filters, Baader 1.25" Solar Continuum 10nm is one.

I guess any wedge is good. I use a Lunt one and also Baader Astrosloar film ND3.8 for imaging and ND5 for visual. Baader astrosolar film is cheaper and very nearly as good. To see white light granulation as in these images you need more magnification so Barlows or Televue powermates are what you need not reducers and flatteners. However to do full disk images a reducer or flattener may be needed depending on the camera you use. (according to chip size).

I expect you can get away with one scope a white light filter, film or wedge and a couple of lenses and be busy with all sorts of solar imaging for a long time, Good luck

Robert

Hi, Solarchatted

I almost lost your question in the middle of this old post. Sorry about the delay.

For these white light images, I used Baader 3.8 film in front of my AR152 refractor.

I never said thank you for your replies.

Gosh, almost a year passed and I am back trying to get more into solar!

I might get a Lunt 50 - if I can afford it.

Sorry again - I am too busy trying to put food on the table these days more than usual.
