24092017_H-Alpha PST Mod DS 127mm
Instead of really comparing the SS and the DS version I just managed to get one decent AVI today. Next time better luck!
It is the new AR (or the old one returning), off course an image of the western limb.

Hi, Bart
You've seemed to have hit your stride with this setup. I look forward to your work. I'm going to try to follow in your footsteps, starting with a
connector and second PST etalon, hopefully in a few weeks.

Good image Bart. We'll see what this one brings as it makes its way around.

Thanks Lou, Derek and Stu.
@Lou: I have seen numerous better pictures that were single stacked compared to my DS versions. I am still not sure if it is my slowly getting better at imaging and processing that makes the images better or if it is really the DS. For me the best way is still to get a very narrow single stacked etalon. The exposure times are much shorter and it is a whole lot easier. But it is nice to experiment! Bart.

That looks a beautiful double stacked image, I am very surprised to hear you say you have seen better single stacked, I can't believe this. On every single stacked image you will see a double limb, I see no double limb here. It is not possible for a single stacked at 0.7A to achieve no double limb effect.

I'd love to get a very narrow 0.4Å etalon but, as of now, one that I like is hovering at almost $13000 US. If there is a less expensive way, I'd want to try that first. I'll keep playing with my current PST etalon combined with a Daystar Combo and then decide what to do.

I must state I was talking about single stacked PST etalons not rear mounted solid mica etalons

Re: 24092017_H-Alpha PST Mod DS 127mm
You are absolutely right Alexandra. The big advantage of this set up is that I don't have the double limb effect anymore. But when I look at SS pictures of AR's not near the limb made with SS versions I really don't see a lot of difference. But it is true that there are a lot of variables:
- the size and quality of the scope
- the level of experience in imaging and processing
- quality of the etalons
- quality of the camera.
I need more patience to really judge the quality of the SS versus the DS version....

Hi Lou,
At what etalon are you looking. I am looking (but it is more dreaming...) of a solar spectrum. Good luck! Bart.

Hi, Bart
I am looking (emphasis on "looking" as in tire kicking) at a Daystar Quantum 0.4Å PE. I was interested in a Daystar 0.4Å Ion until I realized that it's no longer in production (dead link on IC Stars). I'm not ruling out the Quantum but I first want to see whether I can boost the contrast level with my c9.25
by double stacking more readily available (cheaper) etalons much like the huge contrast change made by double stacking my Lunt152 with a Quark Chromosphere.

Hi Lou,
Compared to the Daystar an extra pst etalon is than a relatively cheap way to try it out. One etalon, a high transmission circular polarizer, one adapter and a lot of sun to try it out. Would be nice if you went the same route!
