The usual depression after getting a Red Alert Arora warning on a wet and cloudy night
But satisfaction as the high speed solar wind produces a massive kick on my magnetometer:
Hopefully the image is easy to understand:
Top part is the warning of a threat from the coronal hole / high speed solar wind published on 25th September on Solarham.com
Next part (on the left) shows the traces from my magnetometer (the dark blue and light blue boxes) and, between them, the equivalent record from a professional magnetometer at Dourbes in Belgium.
On the right is a summary of the data collected by 4 professional magnetometers in the UK (the yellow traces are the East-West Magnetic Field Vector which is captured by my instrument).
It will be interesting to see if the 'moderate' activity of today shows another 'kick' as predicted......... watch this space

Here are a couple of more detailed records of the arrival with data captured at 1 second intervals:

Glad you got it Mike it was extremely annoying to get the alerts with the rain beating down outside.

Nicely summarised and presented, Mike.
Also, nicely resolved reverberations on the high cadence data (last two charts). I'm sure these are real effects with real physical significance.

Re: Solar storm arrives as predicted
Mike, beautiful work, I would like to make a magnetometer, is there some place where I can find how to make one?
Best wishes,
Eric.

Re: Solar storm arrives as predicted
Thanks for the kind words guys.
Eric; Stu (Carbon60) did all of the hard work designing and developing the magnetometer I use.
If you are interested, the whole story of how it was built, tested and developed is told in the following SolarChat topic:

Best wishes,
Mike
