September 30th - Ha

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

I started to think I was out of luck for solar work today...started crystal clear, but a lot of clouds blew in mid morning while at work. It cleared off enough to coax me out after lunch and I spent a few hours enjoying all the activity, setting up the DSII mod on the 150mm Celestron OTA, and grabbing a number of videos. As for afternoon seeing conditions, they were not pleasant at all :o but I was surprised how well the images came out.

The first set are full disk composites (separate disk/limb exposures) taken through the LS80T/DSII/B1200 solar scope and the PGR camera, with several different palette offerings:

I re-assembled the DSII mod on the CR-150 OTA as a way to deal with the typical poor seeing in the later fall and winter, but can still run the Quantum on the Istar 150mm OTA or even the 25cm OTA if conditions are ever good enough to permit. I used a 3x Telextender ahead of the camera (ZWO 174MM) and the final result turned out well enough. I have a bit of tweaking to do, but off to a good start.

The first image is the area around AR2683:

The next is AR2682:

The final image is AR2681 as it approaches the western limb. This image was taken with the camera binned:

I actually think the binned set of images turned out the best!

The final images are a pair of small filaments that were visible:

This covers the results of today's session...questions and comments are always welcome.

These are good Brian! Try using the cropped function in Autostakkert to get rid of the knobbly edges the last closeups have.

Good images, Brian. Glad you got some Sun over the weekend. Nothing but grey clouds and rain here!

Mark, Stu and Franco...

Thanks for your feedback, it is always appreciated!!!

I was running images again on Sunday...just need time to process and post.

Mark, I frequently miss the crop checkbox and try to clean them up before posting...I have missed a number of them lately. My bad :P
