Some shots from the 7th and 8th of October 2017.

Post by eroel »

Hi:
Went to the rural observatory during the weekend, weather terrible, rain, clouds and bad seeing.
Anyway, the 7th I chased the sun until I was able to take a few separate shots between clouds, I used the 6" f/12 AP-"Superplanetary" refractor, fitted with a 2X Baader Telecentric and the Daystar ATM filter.
I just tried the 10" f/20 TEC Maksutov fitted with a full size Aries ERF and the ATM Daystar, working just at f/20, still have to setup a 1.6X Barlow for getting the setup above f/20 for a proper layout. I used the SKYnyx 2-2 working ar 12fps, have to try the ASI 174 to get a faster fps for the big scopes.
Then at home the 8th, I got a couple of shots with the Solarmax 90-BF30 and the SKYnyx 2-2.
Weather has been terrible in México, rain, clouds, earth tremors, etc..
Best wishes to all, and thanks for taking a peek and excuse the fast and dirty processing.
Eric.

Hi Eric...

Very sharp set of images from the weekend. Nicely done :bow

Lots of promise for clear skies over the weekend here, but we were under cloud and drizzle most of it. Of course, the clouds did clear to make a beautiful afternoon today but we were all at the farm for Thanksgiving with the family so I missed out :?

Great images as always Eric.
Sounds as if you are having as much luck with the weather as we are here in the UK........... at least we don't have earth tremors to worry about.
I was thinking of you when the reports came in of the devastation in Mexico City - hope everything is OK with you and your family.

Best wishes,
Mike

Hi, Eric

As you note about your own sky conditions, I would say that mine here, one country north of you, are not much better. However, I do like the detail in your images.
Sometimes, you have no choice but to match the scale to your conditions.

Something else we have in common: Getting our large full aperture ERF scopes working as we want. My trials so far with my c9.25 and PST etalon by itself and Quark Combo by itself showed flat perspective and contrast and DS with PST and Quark together, although more contrasty, too dark for the scale I want (4600mm).
I want to get a brighter, more contrasty image.

So, I decided to take advantage of the preliminary work done by bart1805 and try 2 PST etalons in double stack. I ordered an adaptor from
PreciseParts in Miami. They made it and shipped it within a week of my order and fits perfectly.

Before trying this DS module, I’m going to try the newer PST etalon in single stack just in case I accidentally got one of those narrow bandwidth ones.

However, my main interest is setting up my c9.25 in DS for brighter, higher contrast images for limb images.

Unfortunately, given the fall weather here, actual use might not happen until later in the month or even further away

Good luck with your efforts

Lou

Hi Eric,

You will need to use a telecentric barlow lens. The slowest telecentric on a free market is a TeleVue 2x Powermate.
You will get F/40 on the filter. With such an F/40 the filter should work even better. 0,67x to 0,5x reducers will make
IMX174 perfectly sampled depends of seeing and the subject of imaging (0,5x for proms and 0,6x and 0,7x for surface).

Alexandra, Brian, Mark, Mike and Valery:
Thank you very much for looking.
Valery, yes, I thought about using the 2X Baader telecentric, though I am working to adapt the 1.65X Barlow, lets see if it worth.
Here is a mosaic I did with the 2 frames taken with the 6" f/12 AP- triplet refractor.
Thanks for all your comments.
Eric.
P:S. Lou, the guys from Precise Parts are very good making adapters, their craftamanship is excellent.
