SOLAR reflections

Post by pedro »

Check out a nice way to test telescopes.

The sun reflected on porcelain high voltage insulators is great for testing and aligning all types of telescopes. It acts as a kind of artificial star

Check out the images below

Vintage Scopes tested:
1- Zeiss Teleminor E 50/540 II refractor
2- Broadhurst & Clarkson 2.7” F/15 starboy refractor
3- Cooke & Sons 5" F/15 refractor
4- Polarex/Unitron 75mm F/16 OTA
5- Carl Zeiss AS 80 1200 semi-apo refractor
6- Skylight 60mm F/15 refractor

Some are definitely clearer than other :)

When does your museum open to the public? :) I thoroughly enjoyed the tour :)

Thanks Alexandra

Most of these telescopes are excellent with very low chromatic aberration. The afocal images do not show the whole thing (some are slightly out of focus)

The Museum is growing :-)

Thanks Mark

It's difficult to choose a favourite scope. I love old refractors and the ones from the XIX century are always a pleasure to use. The Cooke & Sons 5" F/15 refractor is a fantastic instrument (almost no color aberration)

I was thinking about the question I asked later on today, and it's a difficult one to answer, it's like if someone asked me what my favourite record was, or what a favourite item on a menu is I would struggle to answer...

Hi Pedro...

An awesome collection of instruments...how do you manage to find all these?

I echo Alexandra's comment about the museum, ;)

Thanks Brian

I have been collecting telescopes for about 40 years

You can find a list in my website (more than 50 instruments)

Franco is right, it's an addiction

best regards
