A Quiet Sun - Nov 11th

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

The level of solar activity has gone very quiet again, with only a few smaller proms and filaments on the disk yesterday morning. I had to fight with clouds that hugest the Sothern sky which kept the sun behind a moderate veil of cirrus at best...completely blocked out at times too.

I limited myself to a few full disk images, and the one below is the only one that worked well. Imaged through the LS80T/B1200Ha and PGR camera:

Thursday night brought the return of cold and snow...the overnight low on Thursday and Friday nights was -15.5C :? The pic below shows the scene in the yard looking east towards one of the observatories:

About the time I got to the scope the clouds rolled in to the south

Not much sign of sun in the forecast for a few days...so I'll keep watch here for sunshine!

Brian

Nice full disk Brian! I always like seeing the pics of where you live and the weather you get. It's cold here at the moment too.

Good disk, Brian. Such a short 'summer' season for you. Back to the cold again. Brrrrrr......

Mark, Eric, Franco, Stu, and Derek...

My thanks to each of you for your feedback...always appreciated :bow

The cold didn't last, stayed cold enough yesterday the snow didn't melt but managed to get up to 3C or 4C this afternoon and even with the overcast the snow melted away. I wouldn't min the cold staying for a bit as we need to get some of the fields firmed up to carry harvest equipment (may as well freeze since it won't dry very much at this point). The pic below summarized what kept me busy over the weekend

Stu...for us the 'summer' was limited to mid August through early October. I don't want to see another repeat of this sort of growing season until after I retire ;)

Derek...the corn in the field around the observatory has not be harvested, but the custom operator started in the field across the road from the house late this afternoon while I was pilling wood. Harvest is late due to the late spring planting window, cold summer which lead to a delayed maturity, and unsettled weather slowing harvest. We have not harvested any grain corn at home yet...maybe start tomorrow. They have been holding off changing the combine over from soybeans to corn in order to finish the last of a neighbors beans, but if not ready they aren't going to wait any longer. Need the corn off to let them spread manure and do a bit of tillage before the ground freezes or the snow is too deep to get anything finished this fall.

I best go clean up and make supper before Sandy and Madeline get home from a day trip to Guelph to visit Scott at University.

Take care,
Brian

Great full disc Brian :hamster: :bow I was hoping that Halpha bright spot would develop into to something but perhaps not ;)
It is cold here but still all the leaves on the trees so far.

Thanks Alexandra!!!

I too was hoping that little spot woudl grow into something more interesting, but so far nothing new listed for AR's and no chance to take another look at the sun.
