Check out a few FD images of the sun. A new AR is coming around the limb
Check out also a few images of a new (vintage) refractor I bought yesterday for 100£ (TASCO 10K 80/1200). You might have guessed by now that I love vintage scopes...

A truly fine refractor, one of the best in its class. I had one and I seen spectacular photographs of sunspots made with this instrument in the pre-digital era on TP2415 film. Congratulations!

Superb images of the Sun, the new AR is quite large what classes a telescope as vintage? over a certain age or a particular make?

Thanks Alexandra and Raf
Alexandra: Vintage scopes are usually from the 70 and 80. You should check out Dave Trott's YouTube Channel

Nice scope and pics there Pedro. My first telescope was a Tasco, a 2", but was not very good quality sadly...

Re: Today's SUN (20171116) + new (vintage) scope
Hi, Pedro
I have to say that the mount on your Tasco scope brings back a lot of flashback memories. It looks very much like the mount that came with my first scope
(a Tasco 4" or 4.25 " newtonian) with its bare right ascension gear and long, tight coiled spring extensions for slewing.

Re: Today's SUN (20171116) + new (vintage) scope
Thanks guys
Lou: My first telescope had also a similar mount (1973). It is a 4" Royal Astro reflector (Japan) and I still have it
This Tasco is similar to the Unitrons (OTA and focuser). It is a good performer and I will use it to image the sun as well
