PST got!

Post by Pluton »

Hello,
I just got a PST, I just tried it, and ... what a fantastic image, it seems that something so small can provide such a beautiful image! that sun so tiny in the image of the PST that it seems like a tiny living being with a lot of life !! how much beauty
The only thing that has been a bit uncomfortable (I think it shows some black out) was the eyepiece that came standard with the PST, a 20mm Coronado, I would like you to recommend me some good eyepiece, without that annoying effect of kidney been.
What magnifications are good with this wonderful little solar telescope?
What kind of eyepieces? ploss, rasdem, wide angle ...?
Thank you very much for all your advice
Paul

Welcome to the PST club, I agree the eyepiece that comes with it is terrible!

I use a Pentax Zoom 6-19mm or something like that (need to check exactly). It works brilliantly.

Thank you Alexandra for your kind comment!
I will watch this zoom, maybe it's better, more comfortable I mean, to have an ep zoom. that several ep of different magnifications.

Paul...

The PST can produce some great views and offers and excellent introduction to solar astronomy.

There are many good choices for eyepieces and the zooms offer an great way to get multiple magnification from one piece of hardware. If you have other scopes and eyepieces these can be used pretty well too.

I have recently adopted the Explore Scientific line for solar and planetary work...68 deg apparent field, and they have good eye relief too. An economical but good performing zoom is the Lunt zoom eyepiece.
