Granulation on 25th Feb
Good seeing and totally clear sky with a low sun. I have been trying to do white light granulation animation for a while and this is probably my best attempt yet, certainly the best conditions. I used a Skywatcher 200mm Newtonian with Baader ND3.8 astrosolar film, UV/IR cut, Baader continuum, Televue x5, guided with a Hinode solar guider. (effective FL 5000mm)
The file is 8.5minutes at 15 second cadence and unfortunately is 57Mb so will be slow to load before it runs. Hope you like it. I need to work out how to do it bigger and better! The sun being higher in the sky is my first thought

Wow! superb clarity and the granulation cells are nice and angular, this is a beautiful piece of work Robert, something I am desperate to try this year with the C11 nice to see a few pores as well

I did an SSM record and marked the time in green (1 arc sec and below, 10.47-10.55UTC). Early in the morning and low seems better than later on with a higher sun but the wind was rising too on this day. I think better scale on the granules is what I would like, so your C11 should do that, Alexandra. I see from Flickr you already have an ADM saddle clamp (my not so useful suggestion) so good luck with the C11 lifting arrangements. I am sure you can sort something, straps handles, steps... whatever. Good luck. I may try my low contrast C925 if I ever get such good seeing again. Not so sure about that

The tonal difference between the edges of the granulation cells and the centres are directly related to the temperature. The hot plasma rises in the centre and cools becoming darker as it falls around the perimeter of the cell. So I have read! I think the darker cells must just be at a lower temperature so it shows how active the surface is. This is just 8.5 minutes and the temperature and shape of the granules are all over the place during that short time.

BTW, the granules are +- 1 arc second in size.

This is brilliant Robert. I want to try some granulation later this year with the HaT, I should get a very similar image scale to what you are getting there. Your seeing looked pretty good too looking at the graph from the SSM.
