halpha sun on March 7th

Post by stef41 »

good morning, everyone,

passing this week at the Sirene Observatory ( https://www.obs-sirene.com/ ) on the Albion plateau in France, I was hoping for a better weather forecast than at home... well, not really.

Image

After the rain and snow of the previous days, a more clear day today (I hope to see the stars tonight!); however, as often, the wind has risen with gusts of up to 40km/h! :(

In short, I still tried different settings between the clouds to improve my images of the sun at the fs60 focus: I put the glasspath x1.25 and so the tilt ring back on again. I think I found a not too bad setting to remove the interference we saw in the center. I also unscrewed the second stack a little bit to get more luminous in the middle and darker at the edge (the opposite of previous). It's not perfect yet, I think I would need a ring allowing the rotation between the two stacks, that would be better.

I also played with the camera settings: a low gamma and a low gain also give better results. (we see less of the pattern... and more at all when the "plastic" flat is working! :) )

Otherwise, always the fs60 with the sm40 double stack, glasspath x1.25, BF10 and zwo178mm around 12h20 UT.

That is certainly a lovely observation point, I hope you saw the stars later too. Superb images of the Sun :bow :hamster:

thanks to you :)

@montana > yes, sun during the day and deep sky object at night... well, weather permitting! ;) It is to say if I do not sleep much sometimes when I am at the observatory! :D
