Multiband DERF in action. Ca-K vs H-a

Post by Valery »

Hi all,

Lets remember old good time when the Sun was very active. On one of those days I have tested one of the very first
8" multiband DERF filters. I have received images in two bands in the hydrogen H-a and then in the Ca-K.
Such a DERF makes this easy.

How different they were!

Thanks for looking and comments.

Valery.

Stu, solar spots aside, I hope to find another numerous interesting details on the sun even during these minimum years. Prominences, spiculaes, dark filaments, mini-flares spotless active areas and pores. I think for such surface details we will need double stacked etalons.

Hi Eric and Valery,

I just remember Eric you were waiting back 2-3 years ago for your own ERF from Valery. Did you get it finally / started to use it? I remember the person who was responsible for the coatings had health issues, so not sure what happened.

Thanks,
Gabor

PS: Valery great images as always!

Hi Gabor,

Eric has received his 10" filter many months ago.

Gabor:
That is right, got the beautiful crafted ERF from Valery early last year, I have not been able to use it, due to some remodelling of my rural observatory. Took almost a year to restart all the mounts and scopes, many cables were eaten by roedents, so had to change them, then had to clean all the optical surfaces that had spyderwebs, dust and mold and then recollimate all of them.
Most batteries from handpads, motofocusers, accessories etc..., were totally drained and rusted, so had to change them. The Bose music system cables at the observatory were also eaten, so had to replace them too.
On the computer side, I had to upgrade 3 CP´s because the ones up there had Windows 95, even had some with DOS, now I have fast 3PC´s with 8 processors each and lots of memory.
Has taken so long, because the observatory is placed 135KM from my home in the city, so I just can go on weekends and vacations and have to take parts and there is always something that you forget and so on.
Still have to make some adapters for the Daystar ATM filter to fit the 10" f/20 TEC Maksutov.
Ah, I forgot that I will be 80 next month, so things get slower than before.
Best regards to you Gabor and to Valery.
Eric.

Thanks for the answer Eric, I can't wait to see your images. BTW it's amazing to hear you are so active at 80, I wish you a Happy Birthday from Hungary! :beanie:

Thanks, Ronnie

Yes, a larger aperture makes a difefrence. C11 with an appropriate DERF is a killer solar scope.
Note, that you can also jump at even larger aperture - 312mm DERF filter (for a Made 12" SCT scope)!
