Today's SUN (20180407) | SM90II first light

WEBLINK:
http://re.apaaweb.com/sun_h_alpha_2018-04.html

Finally a few images with the LUNT152 + CORONADO SM90II

It seems that this etalon works better with high focal ratios (F/10)

Hi Pedro,

A front mounted etalon works equally with different F/D of a scope. If you see the improvement - this is because the blocking filter works better in a slower F/D cone - it's bandwidth can widens with fast F/ratios and narrows with slower F/D - as the result you see the system overal performance. Several years ago I read this from Andy Lunt and I also noticed this with my first etalon 90mm Codonado Isle of Man. So, may be it is worth to try a weak barlow lens in a front of BF30 filter making equal F/D slower - about F/15-20.

This etalon is not that narrow (or may be not perfectly in band) but delivers a very uniform picture. I believe that with the Lunt 152 equipped also with it's native etalon, this SM90II will give outstanding DS pictures.

Valery

Thanks Vallery

My old Pre-Meade SM90 (that I sold unfortunately) worked fine with my TV101 F/5.4

With the SM90II it seems that I only have good images (on band) with longer focal ratios. I will try the barlow as soon as I have something to image (AR or prom)

I also plan to use it as a double stack etalon (LUNT152 Ha + SM90II)

regards

Very good Pedro! That 90mm DS setup should allow you some close up views of any more features we get.
