Lunt LS50 and barlow? Time of day to photo..

Post by Taipan »

Hello. I bought my Lunt LS50Ha about a year ago so i am a beginner doing solar photography. I use the ASI 120MM-s camera and it gave me some problems with Newtonrings. I think i got rid of it with some tweeking. :) Se picture.
To reach focus i have to put the camera directly in the diagonal and pull the diagonal out of the focuser about 10mm. So a tiltadaptor wont fit.

IF i want to use a 2x barlow/powermate on this telescope. Where should i put it? before or after the diagonal?
How will this affect the focus?

And is there some time of the day which is best for solarphotography? The morning, afternoon?? Or does it depend on where the sun is in its cykel?

This is the sun from 22/4. Observed from Linkoping in Sweden.

Mattias: I love how you tweaked the inclination of the camera to get rid of the Newton rings. Very crafty.

My experience here is that seeing is better in the early morning, like 9:00 to 10:00, and later part of the afternoon, 3:30 to 5:00PM or so.

A very nice full disk,
Franco

Hi Mattias. That's a lovely disk and a good solution to the newton rings. For me early in the morning works best.

Hi there if you watch a video on YouTube by Wise Imaging it will explain that taking an out of focus flat frame and loading it on your surface vid it gets rid of nr’s As well as any dust bunny’s. I to am a novice and have the same scope and camera as you, I have a Powermate 2x5 but cannot get enough inward travel to achieve focus, I have also tried with a 2x Barlow, just the same result. I have changed the focuser and now have a Featherlite one. How do you get a full disk. By the way great result.

Ok. maybe the LS50 isn't a scope fore higer magnifications.. I bought it for the full disks because i like those pictures. But, sometimes i feal it would be fun to get a closeup of a prom :).Tnx for the info about problems with focus. Guess i just save my money and don't bye a powermait for my LS50..:).
How i get the full disk? The full disk fits on my sensor. Two pictures, one for the disk, one for the proms and i use Photoshop to mix them together.
