It's a public holiday weekend and usually we can expect rain, or at least clouds, but this weekend, for three days including the holiday Monday, we've had pretty much wall to wall sunshine over much of the UK, including my corner of the NW.
This gave me plenty of opportunity between jobs in the garden to image using my usual set up (DS Lunt 60, 72mm f6 CaK, 150mm/Lunt 35 Ha) plus the 250mm RCT which had been giving me all sorts of problems. Turned out that the circular polarising filter I'd added to avoid some stray internal reflections was cloudy meaning that I couldn't capture any sort of detail....at all.... Resolved!
First up a couple of regular full disks in Ha and Cak, mono and colour.

On the 150/Lunt35 mod a view of AR2708.

and a few proms, inverted for effect, taken with a 2.5x Powermate added.....

Then over to the 250mm RCT with a Lunt 35 on the back end providing the Ha Etalon and full size ERF on the front. This was taken this morning after finally working out the problem with the polarising filter. Seeing was pretty bad, with only fleeting glimpses of detail visible. Most ended up in the bin. This was the best I could manage, cropped to remove a gradient. Spot the face of a lion with a large mane?

More work to be done to improve my technique with this one
Thanks for looking.
Stu.

Wow! you had a great weekend too I really like the blue shifted version of the AR, the tongues of fast moving plasma are so smooth and dark. I'm glad to see the hiRes is coming on too, it really is a lot of fun
I must admit, we have had one of the laziest weekends on record (no jobs), I feel guilty now.

Outstanding images. This sort of images convinced me tog et a Quantum filter. Will see what I get when I have it. Still 8 weeks to go until finished.

Re: Long weekend Sun May 2018
Stu:
Very very nice images all around except the last one, but as you say, bad seeing and more work has to be done with the 250mm RC.
I am also finding out how to start with my 10" f/20 Maksutov with a full size Aries ERF, I have bad weather, bad seeing, and more issues that have not given me time to work on it, etc...
Best wishes,
Eric.

Re: Long weekend Sun May 2018
Many thanks for all your comments everyone.
Back to cloud and rain here, so no chance of any further work on the RCT for a while, or anything else solar.
Thanks again.
